In construction, zeolite is more than a simple filler. Thanks to its reactive silica content of 66.7% SiO₂ and fine powder structure, it is a material capable of the pozzolanic reaction (per ASTM C618), and is being evaluated as a supplementary or auxiliary material in a wide range of construction materials such as cement, concrete, mortar, and asphalt.
KMI natural clinoptilolite has a hardness of 4.0–5.0 Mohs, a specific gravity of 1.89, and a bulk density of 720–865 kg/m³. In construction, powder of 100 mesh or finer (<150μm, median 50μm) is mainly used as a pozzolan, cement replacement, and admixture; 8×14 mesh (1.4–2.4mm) granules are used as a de-icing and slip-prevention material; and 4×8 mesh (2.4–4.8mm) coarse granules are used in large packed beds and air scrubbers.
It is also drawing attention as a functional industrial material in applications such as coatings and paints, warm-mix asphalt (as a moisture source), and stucco and mortar additives.
